Hearing loss (or hearing impairment) happens when there is a problem with one or more parts of the ear. There are various grades of hearing loss: someone with minor hearing loss might be able to hear certain sounds and noises, and others with total hearing loss won’t be able to hear anything at all.
Sometimes hearing loss happens naturally, as a result of genetics or a hereditary impairment. Other times, if you work in conditions which put an undue strain on your hearing (for example, working with noisy machinery or loud music) and and your employer doesn’t provide appropriate protection, you are at risk of permanently losing your hearing due to someone else’s negligence.
